Regular text

This is the most common element that you’ll be using. The Fields are Type, Language, Header, Header Type and Content.

Content contains a Rich Text Editor (RTE) that allows you to insert and format the contents of the regular text element.

RTE overview

The Rich Text Editor (RTE) is a word processing tool that works in the same way as Microsoft Word. It allows you to manage and format text through your web browser.

The RTE is composed of a toolbar and a content editing area. The toolbar gives you access to a number of text formatting options:

This drop-down menu allows you to add and update paragraph headers.

This button allows you to change the format of the text.

This button allows you to make the text you have selected in the content editing area bold.

This button allows you to make the text you have selected in the content editing area italic.

These buttons allow you to make the text you have selected in the content editing area superscript or subscript.

This button allows you to insert a numbered (ordered) list.

This button allows you insert bulleted (unordered) list.

These buttons allow you to increase or decrease the indent of the text you have selected in the content editing area.

This button allows you to change normal text to quote formatting.
These buttons allow you to align text to the left, center, right or justify.

This button allows you to insert or update links, more information on how to insert and update links can be found in the Inserting Links chapter of this manual.

This button allows you to insert or update images.

This button inserts a table. You can hover over the grid to select a specific size. Find out more.
This button allows you to add a horizontal line.

This button allows you to find and replace text in the content editing area.

This button allows you to replace text.

This button allows you to show and hide the HTML page source.

This button allows you to remove the formatting which has been applied to the text you have selected in the content editing area.

These buttons allow you to undo/redo changes you have made in the content editing area.

You can insert content by typing it directly into the content editing area. When typing in content, pressing the ‘Return’ key on your keyboard will create a new paragraph. If you just want to enter a new line break use the ‘Shift + Return’ combination on your keyboard instead.

Alternatively, you can copy and paste from an external source. However, it’s important to strip it of any formatting (either using a programme such as Notepad or Text Edit).

When inserting text content, it is good practice to make every paragraph into a separate content element instead of creating a very long one, as this will allow you to reorder and reuse the content elements more flexibly.

Text & Image

This works very simular to the Text element, but with the tab addition of Image. You can wrap multiple images around the text on your page.

The text with image content element has the following form fields:

  • Text: this field contains a Rich Text Editor (RTE) that allows you to insert and format the contents of the regular text element.  Please refer to the RTE overview chapter of this manual for more information on how to use it.
  • Image: this field allows you to set the image which is going be displayed with the text content. You can either select an image from the image manager by clicking the ‘Browse for files’ button or select an image to upload from your hard computer by clicking the ‘Browse’ button.
  • Position: this drop-down menu and icons allow you to set the position of the image in relation to the text content. The two most common positions you will use are ‘in text, right’ and ‘in text, left’.
  • Width / Height: these fields allow you to set the height and width to which the image should be resized.
  • Link: this field allows you to assign a link on the image. You can insert a link by clicking the ‘Link’ icon.
  • Image alttext: this field allows you to set the alternative text which will be displayed if the image cannot be found or if the visitor is browsing the website in text-only mode.
  • Image titletext: this field allows you to set the text that will appear when you hover your mouse cursor over the image.

When using this element, it may be quicker to upload images straight from your computer. However, you will have to go to the correct folder where you want to save your images, before uploadin ghtem. Bear in mind, that you will want to add your image or document name and alternative description.

BEST PRACTICE: We recommend optimising all your images first before uploading them to your website through File List.
