Add a Record
In this section, we will learn how to create and translate a news article. As mentioned above, News is ‘record’ based content. All record-based content uses a pre-defined template to make it easier to create.
Note: When you are viewing and editing Record based items, you will need to select the List view from the modules menu on the left.
Click the + icon to add a new News article.
This will refresh the screen and in the main editing window, you will now see the news template, ready for you to input content.
You will need to complete the following fields:
- Title - this is the article heading
- Date - this can be back-dated if necessary
- Abstract - this is the 50-100 word summary that will show in the list view on the main news page
- Content - this is the main article text
Note: when adding text to the main Content section, it is vital that any formatting is not copied (i.e. from a Word document or PDF). When you have pasted the text in, use the ‘Remove Format’ icon in the toolbar (highlighted below) to strip out any formatting.
You can then use the other items in the toolbar to add the desired styles, such as Bold, Italic, Bullet points, and linked text.
Adding a link gives you the following options: Page (a page within the site), File (a file from the site or one that you choose to upload), External URL, Email and Catalog (which you can use to find and link to another News item).
Once you have finished making changes to your news article. Click the ‘save and close’ button at the top of the screen, otherwise your edits will not be saved. This will return you to the News folder. Your article will automatically be disabled and not be visible on the website. In order to make it live, switch the toggle on the lefthand side.
Alternatively, if you would like to save the progress but keep the article hidden, go to the ‘Permissions’ tab. Here you will find a checkbox called ‘Hide’. If this box is ticked, it will keep the article hidden. When you are ready to publish the article, un-tick the box and click ‘save’.
Edit a News article
At the top of the News template, you will see there are six tabs:
- General - This is where the main body of the article sits.
- Author - This section may not be used on your site. If so, please ignore it. Otherwise, select the author that has written the article.
- Relations - This is where you can categorize your articles. See below more information on this.
- Permissions - Here you can set a date that the article will be published and when it needs to be hidden.
- SEO - Here is an opportunity to add a meta title and description to help your article be found on the internet. Please see our SEO guide for more details.
- Advanced - In this tab, you can turn on/off comments. Please bear in mind that this will have to have been configured in order to work on your website.
