RTE links

You can create, update or delete a link by following these steps:

  1. Select the link or the element you wish to link in the content editing area (by highlighting it with your mouse).
  2. Click the ‘Link’ button in the toolbar.
  3. The ‘Insert/Modify Link’ pop-up window should now appear.
  4. The tabs at the top of the window allow you to set the different types of links.

If you want to delete an existing link click the ‘Remove link’ tab. Otherwise, if you are creating or updating a link the RTE allows you to choose from four different types of links:

Page link

A page link allows you to link to another page of the John Charcol website. However, it is not possible to use a page link to a record item e.g News story or blog. These need to be done with an External Link. You can insert a page link by following these steps:

  1. In the ‘Insert/Modify Link’ pop-up window click the ‘Page’ tab.
  2. You should now see the site tree below the tabbed menu.
  3. In the site, tree click the title of the page you wish to link to.

File link

The file link allows you to link to a file stored in the file manager. You can insert a file link by following these steps:

  1. In the ‘Insert/Modify Link’ pop-up window click the ‘File’ tab.
  2. You should now see the file manager tree below the tabbed menu.
  3. In the file tree click the title of the file you wish to link to.

External link

The external link allows you to link to another website. You can insert an external link by following these steps:

  1. In the ‘Insert/Modify Link’ pop-up window click the ‘External URL’ tab.
  2. You should now see the external link form below the tabbed menu.
  3. Enter the address of the external website in the ‘URL’ field.
  4. If you want the external link to open in a new window select ‘New window’ in the drop-down menu located at the right-hand side of the ‘Target’ field.
  5. Now click the ‘Set Link’ button.

There are grey tabs along the top of the screen. Permissions (Disable option), Advanced (If you want the header to be a link), Categorisation (tagging system, not really relevant for pages, used for duments).

Once you have adding all you content, don't forget to Save and Save and Close.

BEST PRACTICE: If you want to add a link from your website, use the page link. Do not add it as an external link. Google will thank you for it.

Email link

The Email link allows you to link to an Email address. You can insert an Email link by following these steps:

  1. In the ‘Insert/Modify Link’ pop-up window click the ‘Email’ tab.
  2. You should now see the Email link form below the tabbed menu.
  3. Enter the Email address you wish to link to in the ‘Email address’ field.
  4. The ‘Title’ field allows you to set the text, which will appear in the subject of the email.
  5. Now click the ‘Set Link’ button.
