How to create and move pages

If you right-click on the name of a page, a menu pops up. This gives you the option to View the Page (which opens the web page in a new tab), Disable the page (which will hide it from the front end), Edit Page (allows you to edit page properties) and View the Change History/Undo (undo is complicated and cannot be relied upon so pretend it isn’t there).

Page actions menu: new, cut, copy, delete. We’d recommend using Disable, rather than Delete, until you’re absolutely sure.

You can also drag and drop pages in the Page Tree but be careful!

How to add a new page

  1. In the modules menu click the 'Page' module link located in the 'Web' section.
  2. You now need to decide where you want to insert the new page. Click the icon to the left of the parent page into which you want to insert the new page. You should now see the context menu appear
  3. From the context menu click the 'New' link.
  4. You should now see a list of available new record types in the content editing window. Click the 'Page (inside)' link located at the top of the page.
  5. The page header form should now be visible in the content editing window. You will need to fill in the following fields:
    1. Title: This field allows you to set the title of the new page. This is the title that will appear in the site tree and navigation, so try and keep it as short as possible.
    2. Several different options will be available depending on your specific configuration.
  6. Once you have filled out the “Title” and any other fields click the
'Save and close' button in the toolbar. The page you have created should now be visible in the site tree.
  7. In the site tree click the title of the page you have just created.
  8. You should now see the page content editing interface in the content editing window.

You will notice that all pasted pages are hidden by default, you will therefore have to unhide them before they can be viewed on the front end of the website.

Page editing icons are found at the top of a page:

  • New Page: This create a new page.
  • View Page: This opens the web page in a new tab - very useful to veiw your changes!
  • Edit Page: This allows you to edit page properties.
  • View Change History: Here, you can see who made the last edits.

BEST PRACTICE: You should avoid duplicating existing pages and always set them up from scratch, otherwise it is possible to confuse the cache and create Page Not Found errors on your website. If you do copy a page, wait for Typo to give you the option to rename it or it will mess up the URL.
