Page Content

There are many different forms of page content. From simple paragraphs of text to more advanced elements, the process of managing them is similar for all page content elements. You can edit most of the content; such as text and images but not the header and footer or anything hard coded into the page design. The following will cover the creation and management of these elements.

When you click on the name of a page to edit it. You’ll see a collection of grey boxes, each of these is known as an element. Elements are chunks of reusable content – such as text or images – that can be shared and moved easily across the page and the site.

The columns & layout correspond to the design of page on the front end. One or two columns is most common.

When you hover on an element you’ll see a row of icons in the top right corner. Edit, Disable, Copy, Cut, and Unlink (delete).

You’ll also see the cross arrows, which allows you to drag & drop elements but this should be avoided, as it quite often won’t go where you want it to and will instead jump up the page so it’s always easier to use the cut (scissors) and paste (green arrow).

Adding page content

You can create a new page content element by following these steps:

  1. In the modules menu click the 'Page' module link located in the 'Content' section.
  2. In the site tree click the title of the page you wish to add content to.
  3. You should now see the page-editing interface appear in the content editing window.
  4. Depending on which template the page uses, you will see a number of columns in which you can insert content elements.
  5. You can add a new content element by clicking one of the ‘Create new element’ icons in the appropriate column.
  6. You should now see a list of the most frequently used content elements in the content editing window.
  7. You can create the content element you wish to insert by clicking its title and the content editing form should now appear in the content editing window.

For ease of use, the fields are split up under different tabs, which will vary depending on which content element you have selected.

Once you have finished populating the content editing form click the ‘Save’ or ‘Save and close’ button in the toolbar.

Your new content element is now completed. By default new content elements are hidden; therefore remember to unhide them for them to appear on the site.

To veiw your changes, click the page and eye icon. This will open you page in a new tab.
